Boxscore

PHILADELPHIA - Junior guard Mark DiRugeris hit his first eight shots of the second half en route to a game-high 23 points as Chestnut Hill College snapped Goldey-Beacom's four-game winning streak, 68-64 on the last day of the regular season at Sorgenti Arena. The setback - which did not affect the Lightning in the standings as they had already clinched first place on Saturday - negated double-double performances from senior forward Tariq Uqdah (19 points, 16 rebounds) and freshman guard Marcus Porter (15, 10). After having led for most of the first half, Goldey began the second period with a slim, 27-26 edge before DiRugeris caught fire, delivering 12 points to fuel an 18-6 run that broke open a 31-31 game and put the Griffins (18-11, 11-6 CACC) in front, 49-37. The Lightning (16-10, 13-4 CACC) chipped away and eventually pulled back in front, 69-67 on a 3-pointer from postgraduate forward Rich Flemming (nine points and rebounds) with 4:11 to play. However, a driving lay-up by backup freshman guard Luke Dickson (11 points, four assists) knotted the score and triggered a 7-0 spell that put the home team on top for good, 74-69 with 1:59 left. Another Flemming triple with 11 seconds to go narrowed the gap to 76-74, but DiRugeris swished a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining to nail it down for the home side. Sophomore guard A.J. Picard registered 13 points and three steals in defeat for Goldey-Beacom, which also landed graduate guard Jordan Brooks in double figures with 11 points, eight assists and no turnovers. Senior forward Dan Comas finished with 9 points, nine rebounds and three assists in his final home game for the Griffins, who also placed sophomore guard Jakeem Bogans in double figures with 14 points and four helpers. Both teams shot exceptionally well in the second half (CHCH 63%, GBC 52%) and the Lightning won the rebounding battle, 43-31, including an 18-6 domination on the offensive glass. Goldey-Beacom will open the postseason on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 vs. Concordia College, which upset Bloomfield College in overtime to claim the final playoff spot. The game is the first half of a men's-women's playoff doubleheader at the Joseph West Jones Center.
