Junior forward
Irene Hudson delivered a game-high 24 points, including the 1,000th of her career, in leading Goldey-Beacom College (18-7, 13-5 CACC) past Concordia College, 75-64 Saturday in the final regular-season game at the Joseph West Jones Center. Hudson converted 11 of her 16 shot attempts and pulled down eight rebounds for the red-hot Lightning, who have won eight of their last nine games and still have a solid chance to finish in second place and secure a first-round home playoff game. Classmate
Devonne Richardson amassed 13 points, career-high 20 rebounds and five assists for the winners, who also landed freshman forward
Chelsea Grover (12 points off the bench) and junior guard
Ashley Rosario (10 points, seven boards, five assists) in double figures. Goldey-Beacom never trailed in the opening period, racing out to a 13-2 lead. It was 36-25 before the Clippers (7-18, 6-12CACC) used a 15-4 run over the last 3:40 of the half to equalize, 40-40. They took their only two leads shortly after play resumed; the last occurrence at 44-42 on a put-back by Chanessa Blakemore (17 points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots) with 17:16 remaining. A Rosario jumper tied things up, an then a Hudson follow gave the Lightning the lead back for good at 46-44. Thanks to a 9-3 advantage in 3-point makes, Concordia hung around, drawing within 54-53 midway through the period before a Richardson lay-up triggered a 21-7 surge that put the game out of reach at 75-60 in the final minute. Goldey shot better overall (44%-34%), made twice as many free throws (18-26 to 9-13), won the glass (49-36) and dominated the paint (38-12), all factors that led to their success. The Lightning will close out the regular season up in Philadelphia on Tuesday when they take on the Chestnut Hill Griffins at 6:00 pm. A win, coupled with a Philadelphia University loss at Holy Family University, would clinch second place and a home playoff game next weekend.
