Freshman forward
Chelsea Grover busted out for a personal-best 16 points in just 18 minutes off the bench in leading Goldey-Beacom College to a 66-55 victory over the Chestnut Hill Griffins Wednesday at the Joseph West Jones Center. Grover enjoyed a near-perfect shooting night (5-6 FG, 6-6 FT) and added a pair of blocked shots to her stat line as the Lightning (17-7, 12-5 CACC) saw a 15-point halftime lead evaporate midway through the second half, only to recover late. A 22-4 blitz over the final 10:18 of the first half transformed a 13-10 deficit into a 32-17 bulge as Goldey outshot its guests 58%-25% over the initial 20 minutes. However, the Griffins (6-18, 5-12 CACC) claimed the first nine points upon the resumption of play to draw within 32-26. The main catalyst for the comeback was freshman guard Olivia Girczynski, who registered a career-high 22 points and set a program record with seven 3-pointers (her entire team's output) in just nine attempts. The rookie's sixth triple actually put Chestnut Hill in front, 42-41 with 9:55 to play. Goldey slammed on the brakes at that point, embarking on a critical, 17-2 run to grab control for good, 58-44. Sophomore guard
Taylor Leonard (six points) banged both her 3-point attempts during the surge, which concluded with the home team comfortably ahead, 58-44 with 3:20 left. The Griffins - who received a double-double from Ebony Washington (12 points, 10 rebounds) - never came closer than nine points down the stretch. Juniors
Irene Hudson (14 points),
Ashley Rosario (13 points, six rebounds, six assists) and
Devonne Richardson (10 points, nine boards, five assists, four steals) all played key roles in the victory, as did a 17-6 advantage in points at the foul line. The Lightning play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday against Concordia College, with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 pm.
