Boxscore

Tariq Uqdah's driving lay-up with one second left lifted Goldey-Beacom College to a 63-61 overtime victory over Chestnut HIll College Wednesday night at the Joseph West Jones Center. The play capped a strong game from the senior forward as he finished with 10 points and season-best 17 rebounds, helping the Lightning (15-9, 12-3) edge into first place in the CACC South, a half-game ahead of idle Philadelphia University. In a game that featured eight ties and just as many lead changes, the Griffins (17-10, 10-5 CACC) bolted out to an 11-2 lead. But that would represent the largest spread of the game as the hosts would claw back within 27-26 by halftime on a jumper by A.J. Picard (13 points). Another hoop by the sophomore guard at the 16:22 mark of the second half put Goldey-Beacom on top, 35-29, but Chestnut Hill responded with 24 of the game's next 35 points to move back in front, 53-46 with 7:37 left. The Lightning struck with an 11-4 charge, riding a Jordan Brooks basket to knot the score at 57-57 with 2:40 to go. Mark DiRugeris (nine points) hit two free throws to put the Griffs on top, 59-57 with under two minutes on the clock, but postgraduate forward Rich Flemming (17 points in 23 minutes, 7-11 FG) answered with a pair of his own 25 seconds later, fouling out Chestnut Hill senior center Dan Comas (12 points) on the play and leveling the count once more, 59-59. The two teams failed to score the remainder of the period, which concluded with two steals and no shots in the last two possessions. There was very little scoring in the extra session, though the Lightning never trailed. Flemming started things off with a lay-up two minutes in, but Jakeem Bogans (12 points in 44 minutes) hit the tying shot with 35 seconds remaining, setting up Uqdah's winning one-on-one move. Francis Ashe filled the stat sheet for the Griffins with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals while playing
43 minutes. Brooks finished with six points, nine assists and five swipes for Goldey-Beacom, which shot more efficiently (44%-32%), rebounded better (44-38) and assisted more often (17-10), offsetting a 21-13 turnover disparity that resulted into an 18-8 scoring advantage for Chestnut Hill. The Lightning plays its regular-season home finale on Saturday against Concordia College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
