WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior guard Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.) scored the game-winning field goal with 5.8 seconds remaining in regulation to give Goldey-Beacom College (6-5, 3-1) its third consecutive win, an exciting 55-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Caldwell College (2-10, 1-3) at the Lightning's Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon.

The win allowed the Lightning to defeat the Cougars for just the fifth time in the last 16 meetings while handing Caldwell its 10th loss in the last 11 games.

After Goldey-Beacom took a timeout with the score tied at 53-53 with 14 seconds remaining, Richardson converted a driving lay-up on the right side of the free throw lane to give the Lightning a two-point edge.

The Cougars had one final chance to tie the game and force overtime, but freshman guard Fahime Farzanessa (Cologne, Germany) missed a lay-up as time expired.

Trailing by a 21-18 margin to begin the second half, the Lightning battled to a 26-25 deficit by scoring 8 of the first 12 points, including five points from Richardson, to open the stanza.

The teams traded a pair of field goals before the Cougars put together a nine-point run over a three-minute span to expand their advantage to 42-32 on a lay-up by sophomore forward Emily Caswell (Prout School/Wakefield, N.J.).

But, the Lightning answered with a nine-point run of their own, including four points from senior guard Jacinda Jones (Concord H.S./Claymont, Del.), to close the margin to 42-41 with 7:58 remaining.

After a lay-up by senior guard Torey Jones (LaSalle Academy/Providence, R.I.) gave Caldwell a three-point edge, the Lightning scored 8 of the next 10 points, including six points from senior guard Ashley Rosario (Harry S. Truman H.S./Levittown, Pa.), to take their first lead of the game at 49-46 with 4:59 remaining.
But, the Cougars tied the game at 53-53 by scoring 7 of the next 11 points to set up the game-winning heroics by Richardson.

Richardson, who posted her fourth “double double” of the season, led the Lightning to the victory by scoring 15 points with a season-high 16 rebounds. She also contributed five assists in the win.

Meanwhile, Rosario scored a season-high 17 points off the bench by making seven of eight field goal attempts along with three of four free throw attempts. She also added four rebounds as the Lightning out-rebounded Caldwell by a 49-48 margin.

Jones, who entered the game as the third-leading scorer in the CACC, led all players with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars while Caswell contributed a season-high 11 rebounds with six points and two steals.

The Lightning, who have won three games in a row for the second time this season, will make their shortest road trip of the season on Monday night when they visit Wilmington University for a CACC game against the Wildcats at 8 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex. Meanwhile, Caldwell will host Queens College in a non-conference game on Wednesday night.
