OAKDALE, N.Y. – Senior forward Danielle Wilson (St. John the Baptist H.S./Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored 14 points with 10 rebounds to lead Dowling College (2-1) to its second straight win, a 57-41 non-conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (3-4) in the Golden Lions' Holiday Tournament at Dowling Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Wilson, who also contributed four blocked shots, tallied 9 of her 14 points in the second half as the Golden Lions overcame a 29-23 deficit to earn the victory.

Led by a pair of lay-ups from Wilson, the Golden Lions jumped out to a 12-8 lead in the first six minutes of the game. However, the Lightning stormed back by scoring 9 of next 12 points to claim a 17-15 advantage with 6:42 left in the first half on a jumper from junior guard Briana Richmond-Peters (Brimm Medical Arts H.S./Camden, N.J.).

After the Golden Lions battled back to take a 21-20 lead with 3:12 remaining in the period, the Lightning scored 9 of the last 11 points in the first half to take a 29-23 advantage into the intermission.

Goldey-Beacom started the second half by scoring 6 of the first 11 points to extend its advantage to 35-28 on a Richmond-Peters jumper with 16:20 remaining.

But, the Golden Lions answered by going on a 29-6 run over the final 16 minutes to take a commanding 57-41 lead they did not relinquish. Senior guard Connie Simmons (Syosset H.S./Syosset, N.Y.) tallied 12 of her game-high 16 points during the game-ending spurt.

Wilson, a transfer from Baylor University, made 5 of 12 shots from the floor and four of six free throws in leading the Golden Lions to the victory while Simmons connected on 6 of 12 field goal attempts while converting all three of her free throws. She also added four rebounds and four assists.

Senior guard Devonne Richardson (Milford Mill Academy/Baltimore, Md.) led the Lightning in a losing effort by recording her second “double double” of the season. She scored 14 points with 10 rebounds and also contributed two steals. Meanwhile, senior guard Irene Hudson (Corcoran H.S./Syracuse, N.Y.) posted 11 points by making four of nine shots from the floor and three of four free throw attempts.

The Lightning, who have dropped four straight games after a 3-0 start, will continue their three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon by playing C.W. Post in the Dowling Holiday Tournament at 12 p.m.
