LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Freshman goalkeeper
Casey O'Connor (Toms River South H.S./Toms River, N.J.) made two saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season as Georgian Court University (10-5-1, 8-2-0) earned its second win in a row, a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (3-12-0, 1-10-0) at the Lions' Investors Savings Bank Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The win marked the Lions' second straight 1-0 victory after edging Bloomfield by that margin on Saturday afternoon. In addition, it also marked the fourth straight one-goal affair for the Lions.
After a scoreless first half, senior defender
Katie Schieder (Archbishop Ryan H.S./Langhorne, Pa.) gave the Lions a 1-0 lead when she scored her second goal of the season off an assist from junior
Farrell Pomponio (Pinelands Regional H.S./Tuckerton, N.J.).
From there, O'Connor and the Lion defense limited the Lightning to just two shots en route to the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Alyssa Vetrano (Shore Regional H.S./Ocean, N.J.) made nine saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who were outshot by a 19-3 margin. In addition, the Lions held a commanding 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lightning will finish the season on Saturday afternoon by traveling to Nyack College for a CACC match against the Warriors. Meanwhile, the Lions will visit Felician College on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
