WILMINGTON, De

Boxscore

After a slow start a tip in lay-up by Ido Yehuda at the end of the first half gave the Goldey-Beacom Lightning a 3-point at the half.  The Lighting got off to a slow start as they shot a mere 36% from the floor and a dismal 2-10 from behind the arc.  The Wildcats from Wilmington came out strong, shooting a hot 48% from the floor but 13 offensive rebounds kept the Lightning in the game.

The Lightning were unable to carry the momentum of the last second tip in from the first half into the second half.  The Wildcats however came out ready to play, turning a 3-point halftime deficit into a 10 point lead after two foul shots by Ed Freeman with 9:06 to play.  Wilmington would keep the lead at 10 until AJ Picard got free for a lay-up with 6:40 remaining.  The Lightning would chip away by attacking the basket.  The Lighting would cut the lead to 1 with a beautiful pass by Ido Yehuda to Lawrence Livingston for a lay-up with 2:45 left to put the pressure on the Wildcats.  Livingston would take over the next minute of the game, first by blocking a shot by Wilmington's Dennis Herbert then finishing on the offensive end with a 15-foot jumper in the corner to give the Lighting their first lead since the 14:41 mark of the second half, with 1:07 left to play.  Wilmington would again tie the score as Ed Freeman would go 1-2 from the foul line to tie the game at 65 apiece with under 1 minute to play.  Over the last minute of the game AJ Picard would knock down two clutch foul shots to give the Lead only to have Isiah Mason make a game tying lay-up with 13 second to go.  Neither the Wildcats nor the Lighting were able to capitalize on opportunities to win the game in the last 13 seconds sending the game to overtime with the game tied 67-67.

Wilmington took a quick 2-point lead 20 seconds into overtime with two free throws by Isiah Mason, but AJ Picard would counter with a 3-pointer, assist from Jordan Brooks, giving the Lightning a lead they would not give up.  Tariq Uqdah would extend the lead to 4 with an AND 1 lay-up plus the foul shot with 3:45 left in overtime.  After Wilmington cut the lead to 2 at the 3:17 mark a jumper by Jordan Brooks would again extend the lead to 4 with 2:20 to play.  Clutch foul shooting by A.J. Picard and Tariq Uqdah would carry the Lightning down the stretch as they were able to come back from a 10-point second half deficit and hold off cross town rival Wilmington University in overtime.

Leading the Lightning in scoring was Tariq Uqdah and A.J. Picard with 19 points each.  Uqdah added 9 rebounds, but the story of the night was Lawrence Livingston who came off the bench to score 17 points and grab 7 rebounds blocking 3 shots in the process.

With the victory the Lightning improve to 6-5 overall and 4-0 in the CACC.  Goldey-Beacom will travel to Felican College on Saturday before going on the road again to take on The University of the Sciences of Philadelphia on Tuesday January 10th.  Goldey-Beacom College and Wilmington University will play again on January 24th at 8:00pm with the Women playing at 6:00pm.  This time the game will be played on the campus of Goldey-Beacom in the Joseph West Jones Center.
