PHILADELPHIA - The nation's leading goal scorer,
Alexandra Smith, tallied once more for the Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team, but the Lightning fell on the road, 4-1 to Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Plymouth Whitemarsh Field on Tues. night.
The Lightning had their three-game win-streak snapped as they fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Griffins improved to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the CACC.
Chestnut Hill struck twice within a span of 50 seconds in just the eight minute of action and cruised to the 4-1 victory, as the Lightning could only manage a Smith goal just after the 73-minute mark when they were already down 4-0.
Lauren Riff opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, then assisted on a Marykate McShane goal 50 seconds later to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.
A little over seven minutes into the second half, Riff would tally again on a cross in front of the goal by Kaelyn Pizarro. Carly DiGiovanni would add the fourth Griffin goal in the 69th minute putting in a chip pass from McShane.
Alexandra Smith would score in the 73rd minute off an assist from sophomore
Danielle Semenza, but it was too little too late for GBC.
The Griffins held a 21-13 advantage in shots and a commanding 12-1 disparity in corner kicks.
The Lightning are back in action on Sat. as they host Dominican College at 1 p.m. at Churchman Field.
