The Lightning fell to #15 Bowie State on Friday night. Goldey-Beacom lead for much of the game but was unable to pull off the upset. Bowie State who holds the second longest home winning streak in the country at 18 games was able to overcome the Lightning in the second half.
After a slow start both teams got it going after Bowie State's Darren Clark hit a 3-pointer at the 14:55 mark to give BSU a 9-7 lead. The Lightning fired back with back-to-back lay-ups by
Tariq Uqdah and
Ido Yehuda to take an 11-9 lead. Bowie State would answer with two lay-ups of their own, by Byron Westmorland and Najee White to regain the lead. The lead would change hands two more times before being tied 36-36 with 8 seconds to go in the half. At which point Lightning coach
Chuck Hammond called a timeout to set up a play.

A.J. Picard in the corner who found
Tariq Uqdah for a short jumper in the lane as the half time buzzer sounded, giving Goldey-Beacom the slim 38-36 half time lead.
Goldey-Beacom hit 13-25 (52%) shots from the field in the first half including 4-8 from the 3-point line and 8 of 11 from the foul line. Bowie State ended the first half shooting 48% (13-27) from the floor and 6-15 from deep and 4-9 from the charity strip.
The Lighting would nurse the lead for much of the second half increasing their lead to 6 (64-58) with 9:39 remaining. The Lightning would struggle score over the next 5:34. The next Goldey-Beacom points would come from
Curtis Hopkins who drained a 3-pointer at the 4:05 mark to cut Bowie State's lead to 3 at 70-67.
Bowie State would extend their lead to 7 after a jumper by Darren Clark and a Lay-up by Jay Gavin. The Lightning however would not go away as 3-pointers by
A.J. Picard and
Ido Yehuda would keep the score close. However the Lightning could not hold off Bowie State as they were able to pull away late to take home the 84-78 victory.
A.J. Picard paced the Lightning with a team high 21 points and a career high 9 rebounds.
Rich Flemming and
Tariq Uqdah chipped in with 18 and 14 points respectively.
