PIKE CREEK, Del. - A slow start and a poor finish led to a 3-1 loss to Georgian Court in the Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team's season finale on Tues. night at the GCU Wellness Center. The Lightning, who have had their winningest season since 2006, lost to the Lions by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-16.
With the loss, GBC finishes the season with a record of 14-16 overall and 7-12 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Georgian Court, meanwhile, finishes 8-24 overall and 6-12 in league play.

Monica Dempsey led the Lightning with her 19th double-double of the season which included 19 digs and 18 assists. Freshman libero
Niki Receveur was also outstanding for the Lightning defensively with a match-high 21 digs. This was Receveur's sixth match this season with over 20 digs.
Offensively, senior

Kadi McCoy each tallied eight kills to lead the Lightning. GBC hit a mere .089 as a team though, committing 15 errors on the night.
Meanwhile, Georgian Court hit .293 as a team led by Tatiana Villariny's 25 kills and Amy Berry's 15. Jaslene Lopez directed the offense with 47 assists, and Francheska Cedres tied for the match-high with 21 digs.
This match marks the end of the 2011 season, during which the Lightning matched its 2006 win total of 14 wins and fought to nearly the end of the season for a CACC playoff bid. Head coach Rich Bowers, who went over 100 coaching wins this season, returns 11 of his 14 players in 2012.
