Lightning Men’s Cross Country Wins Queensborough Invitational

Reich was the individual winner at the Queensborough Invitational with an 8K time of 29:23.

BRONX, N.Y. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's cross country team placed first of eight teams at the Queensborough College Invitational on a beautiful, 78-degree Sunday afternoon at Van Cortland Park.

Freshman Stewart Reich was the individual winner at the hilly, 8K course in the Bronx with a time of 29:23.

Reich trailed five other runners at the two-mile mark before passing four runners between miles three and four to move into second place. Just before reaching the four-mile mark, he had overcome the first-place runner as well. The two men traded first-place position two times in the last mile, but on the flat finish, Reich distanced himself from the second runner to win by 50 meters.

The race was not won by the team until the fourth and fifth-place runners crossed the finish line. The Lightning had five runners in the top-13.

Junior Ben Kinley (30:21) finished the race in 7th place and bettered his personal best on the course from last season by 23 seconds.

The pack was led by sophomore David Zartler (30:45, 10th) and followed closely by freshman Hugo Morales (31:10, 12th) and junior Paul Graybeal (31:13, 13th).

The final two runners making the varsity team this weekend were Trevor Freburger (32:31, 24th) and Jabari Chambers (34:10, 38th).
