GBC Men’s Cross Country Takes Sixth at Very Competitive Blue Gold Invitational

NEWARK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's cross country team finished with a total 8K team time of 2:32:02 and a score of 163 to place sixth in the nine-team, Division II and III portion of the Blue-Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware at White Clay Creek State Park.

The Lightning finished 31 points ahead of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference counterpart Chestnut Hill College (7th, 194) and 38 points behind fifth place CACC foe Wilmington (125). Another CACC team, Philadelphia University, took fourth with a score of 93.

Gwynedd-Mercy took the top team spot with a score of 48 and a total team time of 2:19:05. Franklin & Marshall was second at 53 (2:20:56.37) and West Chester was third at 67 (2:21:50). After sixth place GBC was Chestnut Hill, Lincoln (210) and Penn State–Brandywine (260).

Leading the Lightning was freshman Stewart Reich, who took 21st with a time of 29:02 – an average mile time of 5:50.6. Junior Ben Kinley was in next for GBC, 34th overall with a time of 29:43 (5:58.8 avg./mile).

Freshman Hugo Morales was not far behind, placing 39th with a 30:02, running just over 6-minute miles (6:02.7). Sophomore David Zartler came in at 31:05 to finish 48th.

GBC's fifth man, Paul Graybeal crossed the line at 32:07, good for 60th place overall, as he was trailed most of the way by Lightning senior Trevor Freburger and freshman Jabari Chambers who finished 65th and 67th, respectively. Freburger came in at 34:01 and Chambers at 35:01.

Up next for GBC is the East Stroudsburg Invitational on Sat., Oct. 23. This is the last meet before the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships on Nov. 7.
