PHILADELPHIA – After falling behind 2-0 early in the first half at Chestnut Hill College Wed. afternoon, the Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team never recovered, losing by a final score of 4-1.
With the loss, the Lightning fall to 0-6 (0-3 CACC), while the Griffins (6-3, 3-2), with the win, have guaranteed their best Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference showing since joining the conference.
Sophomore Karin Eriksson scored GBC's lone goal on the afternoon on an assist from junior Ashley Welch. Eriksson has all four Lightning goals this season.
Freshman Alyssa Vetrano got the start in goal today for the injured Kristin Degenhardt. She made five saves and allowed four goals in 90 minutes of work.
CHC got on the scoreboard early when Jordan Wagner rebounded a direct kick from Lauren Riff at the 6:31 mark.
Just over ten minutes later, Wagner served a cross from the far sideline to the foot of Alyssa Radetich, who put it past Vetrano to give the Griffins a 2-0 edge.
GBC narrowed the gap at 30:43 when a pass from Welch located Eriksson who pushed the ball past CHC goalkeeper Jessica Veazey to cut the decifict to 2-1 before halftime.
But the Griffins wasted little time separating themselves from the Lightning in the second half. A goal by Riff gave CHC a 3-1 lead and the insurance it would need a little after the 48-minute mark. Amanda Botbyl would then scored off a direct kick a little over a minute later to give the game its final score of 4-1.
The Lightning, seeking their first win, are back in action on Sat. at 6 p.m. where they will pay a visit to CACC foe Felician College.
