NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team had no answer for Wilmington's Klaudia Furman, as the host Wildcats ran away with a 6-0 win on Tues. afternoon in GBC's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference season opener.

With the loss, the Lightning fall to 0-4 (0-1 CACC) and Wilmington improves to 31 (2-0 CACC).

GBC took nine shots on the afternoon. Senior Katie Attenberger, sophomore Karin Eriksson, and freshman Kelly Williams each took three shots. Meanwhile, the Wildcats took 43 shots as a team, including three players with five shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Degenhardt and freshman keeper Alyssa Vetrano shared time in net for the Lightning again. Degenhardt got the start and allowed four first-half goals while stopping 11 shots. Vetrano relieved her nearing the 57th minute in the second half and allowed one goal while making four saves.

The game was scoreless for over 30 minutes before Wilmington's Ashli Herlach scored on a one-timer off a cross by Kirsten Stallone. Furman would score the first of her three goals a little over two minutes later to put the Wildcats up, 2-0.

Wilmington would strike twice more before the half as Furman assisted on a goal by Elizabeth Case and then Megan Whalen put home a pass by Danielle Niccoli to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead at the intermission.

Furman would strike again a little over a minute into the second half, and then add a goal off of another Niccoli assist as the game approached the 80-minute mark to put Wilmington ahead 6-0 to stay.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action at home on Sat., Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. as the Lightning take on CACC opponent Dominican College.
