MANSFIELD, Pa. – Despite great efforts from goalkeepers Kristin Degenhardt and Alyssa Vetrano, the Goldey-Beacom women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss in its Division II non-league season opener against Mansfield.
Degenhardt made five saves to preserve a first-half shut-out even as Mansfield outshot GBC 16-1 in the first half. Vetrano relieved Degenhardt in the second half and made eight saves but allowed three goals.
Mansfield's Katie Parsnik opened the scoring in the 48th minute with the first of her two goals, drilling the ball off the crossbar and into the net from 20 yards out. A little over seven minutes later, Cortney Spertzel took a pass from Kaitlyn McBride and put Mansfield up 2-0.
The Mountaineers got their third and final goal when Parsnik put back a ball that deflected off a defender on a corner kick.
