PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team fought hard to send its three seniors Chalea Johnson, Emily McMichael and Kellyn Nolan off with a win, but fell 3-0 to non-league opponent Millersville Wed. night at the Joseph West Jones Center.

The Lightning improved each game, putting up more and more of a fight as the match went along, but Millersville was too much, as they fell 25-13, 25-18 and 25-22.

Freshman Monica Dempsey led the way offensively with a team-high eight kills and seven assists. She also led the team with 11 digs. Sophomore Roni Shaner led the team with four service aces, nine assists and had 10 digs, and Johnson had five kills in her last-ever game with the Lightning.

Dempsey finished her rookie season with a team-high 404 assists, and Shaner finished the season with a team-high 179 kills.

Graduate senior Christine Hudock, who was also playing in her final game with the Lightning, pitched in with eight digs, giving her a final total of 1,327 for her career.

Millersville was led by Allison Huss with eight kills and three service aces. As a team, the Marauders had 35 kills on the night and 11 service aces. The Marauders won with a team effort though, as 10 different players pitched in with at least one kill and five different players had at least two service aces.

The Lightning finished the 2009 season 9-22. They will return eight of 12 players from this year's team in 2010.
