CALDWELL, N.J. – Sophomore Marissa Valladares scored in the 71st minute to bring the Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team within a goal, but Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Caldwell held on for a 2-1 win.

GBC (2-12, 1-9 CACC) surrendered two first-half goals, the first coming just over three minutes into the action. The Cougars came out hungry as this win clinched a berth in the CACC Tournament. Caldwell currently sits in sixth place with a conference record of 6-4-1.

Sophomore Kristin Degenhardt played the full 90 minutes in net for GBC. She made nine saves while allowing two goals.

Just over three minutes into the game, a hand ball was called in the GBC penalty area. Caldwell's Nikki D'Orsaneo placed the ensuing penalty kick into the right side of the goal for a quick 1-0 Cougar lead.

In the 34th minute, D'Orsaneo passed the ball ahead to Jackie D'Orsaneo, who crossed the ball towards the Lightning goal. The ball came through to the far post, where Jackie Crankshaw knocked it home for a 2-0 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom made things interesting in the 71st minute, when Valladares received a pass from senior Kate Attenberger, dribbled around a defender and scored from 15 yards out to cut Caldwell's lead to 2-1.

However, Caldwell controlled play the rest of the game to close out the win, holding an 8-1 advantage in shots in the game's final 19 minutes. The Cougars out-shot the Lightning 23-10 for the game, including 16-2 in the second half.

GBC hosts its last home game of the season on Wed., Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. versus Bloomfield College.
