PIKE CREEK, Del. – Three different Lightning players scored as the host Goldey-Beacom College women's soccer team won its second straight game, 3-1 over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Post University.
Sophomore Karin Eriksson, senior Kate Attenberger and sophomore Felicia Justice tallied in that order as sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Degenhardt allowed just one goal in 90 minutes of work while making four stops.
GBC improved to 2-9 (1-6 CACC) as Post fell to 3-8 (1-5 CACC).
The Eagles held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks, but the Lightning took 23 shots to their 15, putting 10 on goal to their five.
The game was scoreless for the first 33 minutes, when, right at the 34-minute mark, Eriksson headed in a cross from sophomore Marissa Valladares to give GBC a 1-0 lead. Eriksson's goal was her team-leading eighth of the season.
A little over a minute later, freshman Kelly Williams sent a beautiful corner kick into the box and Attenberger was right there to head it in to give the Lightning a 2-0 advantage before halftime.
GBC went right to work in the second half as the speedy Justice took a pass from Eriksson and scored a breakaway goal a little over five minutes into the second half to put the game out of reach at 3-0. Justice's goal was her first of the season, as was Eriksson's assist.
Susie Curran put Post on the board at 73:40 as she volleyed a pass from Alexis Osbourne past Degenhardt for the Eagles first and only goal of the day.
Neither team would score the remainder of the game, and GBC went on to win its second straight and first conference game of the season.
