Lightning Women’s Soccer drops a tough season opener

Wilmington, DE – Lightning Women's Soccer drops a tough season opener

The Goldey-Beacom College Women's Soccer team kicked off their season opener against Mansfield University.  The Lightning who has brought on nine new players came out strong and were determined.

Mansfield struck the first blow with a late first half goal by Natalie Adams from 22 yards out.  Freshman goalkeeper Kristin Degenhardt (GBC) saved 5 shots in the first half and had a total of 9 saves for the entire game.  Marisa Valladares managed 3 shots in the first half but with no luck.

With the score at 1-0 in Mansfield's favor the Lightning took the field for the second half of play.  Mansfield came out and immediately started striking the ball hard and scored within three minutes of the second half.  The Lightning hung with them, but unfortunately dropped their home and season opener 3-0.  The Lightning will next face Maritime College on September 5, 2008.
