Women's Soccer comes close to Nyack College

Wilmington, DE – Women's Soccer comes close to Nyack

 

On Saturday, the Lightning women's soccer team played host to Nyack College.  The Lightning started the first half with a bang, scoring just seven minutes into the game.  Karin Eriksson scored her eighth goal of the season and her fourth of the week, with a shot from 15 yards out.  Jeanette Benson supplied the assist.   

 

Nyack College quickly came back just three minutes later with a finished cross from eight yards out to tie the game.  The Lightning responded with an unassisted goal from Karin Eriksson to go up 2-1.  However, Nyack tied the game two minutes later with header off a corner kick.

 

The Lightning continuing to work hard in the second half, as Kate Attenberger sent Jeanette Benson in behind the defense with a perfect through ball for the Lightning's third goal.  Nine minutes later, Nyack tied the game up for the third time with a penalty kick. 

 

In the 75th minute, Nyack scored final goal of the game, and defeated the Lightning 4-3.  With the loss, GBC drops to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the CACC, while Nyack improves to 7-5, 4-3.

 

Karin Eriksson led the Lightning with 2 goals and Kristen Degenhardt recorded 16 saves. 

 

The Lightning will next play host to Holy Family University on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 3:30pm.
