Parkes5(lg)-2010
PIKE CREEK, Del. – Senior Terrence Parkes of the men’s basketball team and redshirt-sophomore Ashley Rosario of the women’s basketball team have been named Goldey-Beacom College male and female athletes of the month for the month of December. Both of these athletes put up impressive numbers and performances this past month.
Parkes, a 6-foot-6 forward in his second year at GBC after transferring in from Division I Delaware State, earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the week on Dec. 20 after a remarkable week during which he recorded three consecutive double-doubles in a 3-0 week for the Lightning. During that week, he averaged 23.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 47-percent shooting from the field. He chalked up 29 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Millersville and poured in 23 points and five rebounds in a 69-68 upset over No. 20 Bowie State.
Also, in the final game of the calendar year, Parkes set a new CACC record for rebounds in a game as he pulled down 22 boards to go with 20 points in a non-conference win over Virginia State on Dec. 30.
A native of New Rochelle, N.Y., Parkes had an electrifying December as he helped the Lightning to a 6-2 record, including the big upset over Bowie State. He averaged 20.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per-game over the course of those eight games, and along the way, he scored 20 or more points four times and collected four double-doubles.
A business administration major in only his second but final season at Goldey-Beacom, Parkes already stands at No. 8 on the school’s career scoring list with 682 points and No. 4 on the caree

r rebounding list with 365. Through 13 games this season, he already has 250 points and 135 rebounds.
Rosario, a Levittown, Pa. native, was the team’s unsung hero during the month of December that saw GBC go 3-2. Her month was highlighted by a team-high 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field in a 65-46 blowout win over rival Wilmington at the Jones Center. That night she was also part of a Lightning defensive unit that forced 23 Wildcat turnovers and held them to the fewest points allowed (13) in the first half of any game since 2004.
Usually assigned by head coach Jen Carleton to cover the opposing team’s best player, Rosario may not light up a stat page but certainly makes an impact with her aggressive defense and hustle on the floor.
A redshirt-sophomore guard, she averaged 5.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per-game and registered three assists and two steals.
