Kyle White and Jacinda Jones Named December GBC Athletes of the Month

PIKE CREEK, Del. – Senior guard Kyle White of the men’s basketball team and red-shirt sophomore guard Jacinda Jones of the women’s basketball team have been named Goldey-Beacom College male and female athletes of the month, respectively for the month of December.

Both were honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference during the month of December as well. White earned player of the week laurels on Dec. 7 and 21 and Jones earned honorable mention on Dec. 21.

White, a Georgetown, Del. native who transferred in from Delaware State last season, averaged 21.3 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, dished out 31 assists, blocked three shots and had 15 steals as he led the Lightning to a 7-1 record in December. He recorded two double-doubles against Washington Adventist (20 pts., 10 reb.) and at Millersville (28 pts., 10 rebounds), and he scored 20 or more points in five of the Lightning’s eight December games, including a season-high 29 in an 84-73 victory over New Haven.

In just his second season at Goldey-Beacom, White has already moved into the No. 5 spot on the school’s career scoring list (dating back to 2001-02) with 673 points. He has scored in double-figures in all 10 of the Lightning’s games this season and had seven games of 20 or more points.

White and the Lightning are off to an 8-2 record this season. They will host the nation’s No. 7 ranked team in Kutztown University on Jan. 5

Jones, who missed all of last season with an ACL injury and still wears a knee brace, has had a terrific return to the Lightning’s lineup and played particularly well in the month of December. In seven games, she averaged 19.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, blocked seven shots and had 12 steals. She scored in double-figures in six of those seven games, including four games of 20 points or more.

The Claymont, Del. native scored 26 as the Lightning nearly upset CACC south division rival Philadelphia University on Dec. 8, and poured in 24 in another close conference loss to Chestnut Hill.

Then, the last two games of the month, she guided the Lightning to consecutive non-league wins over St. Michael’s College and Bloomsburg University. She first scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 67-62 win over St. Michael’s, then recorded a double-double with a resounding 29 points and 14 rebounds in an impressive, 70-57 Lightning win over the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s Bloomsburg to close out 2009. She scored 19 of her 29 points in the second half as GBC overcame a 34-29 halftime deficit to win the game.

For the season, Jones is averaging 18.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg and has recorded 10 assists, 13 blocks and 17 steals. In just her second season of eligibility, Jones has already moved into a tie for 10th place on the school’s career scoring list (dating back to 2000-01) with 535 points.

After a rough start to the season, Jones and the Lightning have won two straight to improve their record to 3-7. GBC will enter back into CACC play on Jan. 7 with a visit to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
