Volleyball Wins Twice To End West Virginia Trip

Goldey-Beacom closed a 3-1 weekend in Shepherdstown, WV with a pair of victories, 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-19) over Shaw and 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-18) against Chestnut Hill.
 
Goldey-Beacom (4-1) in its match with Shaw played solidly over the final three sets, recording a 34-31 kills advantage and forcing the opposition into 16 errors.  The defense clearly was on display in the third set, when the Bears committed eight errors with only a .031 percentage.
 
Senior Baylee Brin (Salina, KS) again was the story with 10 kills in once again being a presence on the outside.  Junior Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) recorded 16 assists and six aces, sophomore Ashley Fru (Brandywine, MD) had 10 assists, junior Brianna Anderson (Mesa, AZ) amassed 19 digs and sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) added eight kills and no errors for a .533 percentage.
 
Leana Gould totaled 11 kills for Shaw, which was induced into 24 attack errors and limited to a .145 percentage
 
In a non-league match against a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent, Goldey-Beacom in set two won the last four points to grab a two-set cushion.  Sophomore Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) recorded consecutive kills for a 24-all tie before back-to-back blocks assists from Fullwood and sophomore Cassie Hall (Williamsburg, VA) ended the set.
 
That was just the main course.  The appetizer saw the Griffins record nine attack errors and a mere .091 percentage in set one.  Dessert was served with eight errors and a .000 percentage in the third set.
 
Fru ended with 13 assists and nine digs, Anderson recorded 13 digs with Fullwood getting eight kills to go with four block assists.
 
Macayla Linder had nine kills and 12 digs for Chestnut Hill (1-3).
 
Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday faces Kutztown in a 6:30 pm match.  Please note Kutztown's home matches this season will be at Brandywine Heights High School in Mertztown, PA.
