Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Post

Goldey-Beacom continued play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 15-2 victory in game two at Post after a 3-2 setback in Waterbury, CT.

Game two produced a happy recap with Goldey-Beacom plating five runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 5-2 lead.  Sophomore Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) lined a two-run single to level things, freshman Shawn Roy (New Castle, DE) got the lead run home on a sacrifice bunt, junior Trey Mason (Germantown, MD) dropped a run-scoring bunt single and Roy crossed home on a balk.

Three insurance runs scored in the fifth inning for an 8-2 margin with Williams getting an RBI single and Roy following with a two-run single.

Seven more runs scored in the seventh and final frame, highlighted by a two-run double from freshman Kaden Barmer (Edgewood, MD).

Williams, Barmer and sophomore Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) all had two hits for the Lightning.  Sophomore George Starr (Franklinville, NJ) struck out six over seven innings, yielding just two runs and six hits.

Goldey-Beacom in game one scored twice in the top of the third to open the scoring.  Senior Joey Current (Denver, PA) lined a one-out double, took third on Mason's single and scored on Barmer's single for a 1-0 lead.  Sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) followed with a sacrifice fly for a two-run margin.

Post closed to 2-1 in the last of the frame on Andrew Hartman's RBI single and tied it in the eighth on Jesse Alfalla's run-scoring single.

The Lightning looked to force extra innings, but the Eagles ended things in the ninth by taking their first lead.  Gill Dolan lined a one-out single, took second when Joey Cohen walked and scored on Manny Contreras' single down the left-field line.

Barmer, Current and Mason closed with two hits apiece.  Senior Connor Blence (Downingtown, PA) again was great on the bump, striking out seven over 7 2/3 innings and yielding just two runs.

Dolan rapped three hits and Justin Hascup struck out five over six innings for Post.  Logan Pulitano struck out four over three scoreless frames for the win.

Goldey-Beacom (27-20, 20-11 CACC), which reached 20 league victories for a second straight season, now is in a virtual tie with Jefferson (19-10) for second place in the conference.  Post (25-22, 19-12) is in fourth place, tied in the loss column with Felician (17-12).

The games were the only Saturday contests in the CACC.

Goldey-Beacom and Post close their three-game series Sunday at Doyle Field in Hockessin.  Game time is at 1:00 pm with Senior Day to precede it.
