Baseball Listed in the NCAA East Region Rankings Despite Two Losses at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom made its annual trip to Wilmington and was handed a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses, 10-4 and 5-0 in New Castle, DE.

Wilmington in game one plated the contest's first eight runs over four innings, highlighted by Brett Walmsley's three-run homer in the fourth.  Tyler Pirrung, Garrett Quinn and Cam Trego each had an RBI single in that time.

Freshman Kaden Barmer (Edgewood, MD) provided hope for the Lightning in the top of the fifth, crushing a three-run homer to straightaway center field for his second long ball of the campaign.

The Wildcats' lead was 9-3 entering the seventh, when sophomore Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE) took his turn at the plate in blasting a solo home run.  It was his ninth homer of the season and his third straight contest with a long ball.

Walmsley punctuated things with his second homer of the contest, a solo shot in the eighth.

Chase Fleming (6-1) retired the first 10 batters and struck out nine over seven innings for Wilmington.  Walmsley had four hits and five RBI with Pirrung collecting three hits.

The scoring for game two commenced in the last of the first, when the Wildcats plated two runs.  Chase Fleming got an RBI off an error and Trego added his own RBI off a fielder's choice.

Walmsley in the third inning continued his impressive day with a sacrifice fly, Brian Klumpp in the fifth rapped an RBI double and Stephen Katch added a run-scoring single later in the frame.

Klumpp finished with three hits and Garrett Quinn struck out eight over six innings, allowing just three hits.

Wilmington (31-14, 22-7 CACC) now owns a three-game lead over Goldey-Beacom (26-19, 19-10) for first place in the conference.  GBC is tied for second with Jefferson (19-10) and both are one game clear of Post (18-11).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is scheduled to visit Post for a noon doubleheader.  Please consult our website and our X account (@gbclightning) for any potential weather updates and changes.

Goldey-Beacom afterward learned it is listed in the first NCAA East Region rankings.  As is the case with all initial rankings in Division II, the teams are listed in alphabetical order.
