Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Wins Two vs. Queens (NY)

Goldey-Beacom baseball played the first two games of a four-game series with Queens (NY) and picked up a 10-7 victory before an 8-7 win in the following game in Flemington, NJ.

In game one, sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) got things started for the Lightning in the first inning with a solo home run to left field. In the third inning, Queens responded with a two-run homer from John Harkins. The fourth inning saw a double to center field from junior Matt Murphy (Voorhees, N.J.) that scored sophomores Jake Macey (Smyrna, DE) and Owen Knerr (Ocean City, MD). A home run from Connor Waiting evened the score at three after the fourth inning.

The fifth inning saw a single from Knerr that sent Trey Mason home and a huge grand slam from Macey gave the Lightning an 8-3 edge. Sophomore Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE) added a homer of his own to keep the runs going for GBC. Queens responded again in the seventh inning with a single from Vincent Mallon to advance John Harkins and a walk home. The Lightning weren't finished yet and scored their tenth run on a sophomore Max Lopuhovsky (Scranton, PA) that scored freshman Kaden Barmer (Edgewood, Md.). Queens finished with one more home run by Christian Aguilar to score two runs before the Goldey-Beacom victory.

Game two saw similar action to the first with GBC scoring in the second inning on a sacrifice RBI from Macy that allowed Murphy to make it home. An RBI in the third inning from Keith scored junior Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) and a single from Macey sent Knerr home to put the Lightning up 3-0. Queens battled back in the bottom of the third and scored five runs on a home run from Justin Chong, a double by Vincent Mallon, and a three-run homer from Connor Waiting. In the fourth inning, Lopuhovsky singled to score senior Joey Current (Denver, PA).

Queens was up 7-5 after the fifth inning on an RBI from Nico Sorice and an unearned run by Vincent Mallon before the Lightning took over for the rest of the game and scored in the sixth inning on a double from Lopuhovsky, a sacrifice fly from Current in the seventh inning, and the winning run by Barmer on a single to left field from Neris Jr.

Goldey-Beacom plays the last two games of the series on Sunday, with a noon doubleheader in Flemington, NJ.
