Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Wins Both at Bridgeport

Goldey-Beacom ran its winning streak to four games with a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victories, 8-6 and 8-0 at Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT.

The Lightning in game one plated five runs in the top of the second inning for a 5-0 lead.  Sophomore Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) scored on an error, junior Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) ripped a three-run double and sophomore Owen Knerr (Ocean City, MD) added an RBI single.

Williams in the third inning got an RBI triple and sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) added a sacrifice fly later in the frame for a 7-1 GBC lead.

Senior Kevin Dillon (Mount Bethel, PA) pitched the final two innings for his seventh career save, tying the school record he shares with Karl Schmidt (2021-24).  The six saves this season is a new team mark, breaking the record Schmidt set three years ago.

Stewart rapped three hits with Knerr and sophomore Jake Macey (Smyrna, DE) adding two apiece.  Dallas, PA junior Ty Federici (2-1) pitched a scoreless inning to effectively get the win.

Goldey-Beacom in game two got an RBI single from Macey in the first, the second home run of the season for senior Joey Current (Denver, PA) one inning later and a run-scoring triple from freshman Kaden Barmer (Edgewood, MD) in the fourth for a 3-0 margin.

That lead grew to 6-0 in the fifth when sophomore Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE) crushed a three-run long ball for his sixth home run of the campaign.

Downingtown, PA senior Connor Blence (3-2) was outstanding in recording his first career shutout, allowing just five hits over seven innings.  Barmer rapped a season-best three hits with Keith and Neris getting two apiece.

These teams on Sunday close their three-game series at Doyle Field in Hockessin, beginning at 1:00 pm.
