Baseball Drops a Pair at Millersville

Goldey-Beacom opened its doubleheader at Millersville with a 2-1 setback before a 16-7 loss in the nightcap in Millersville, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in game one grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE) lined a one-out single, took third on a single from fellow sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) and scored on a passed ball.

The Marauders scored twice in the last of the fifth for a 2-1 margin.  Brady Ebbert lined an RBI single to score Troy Chamberlin in a play which Christian Cerone was thrown out at the plate by center fielder junior Trey Mason (Germantown, MD).  However, Millersville took the lead on the next batter with Matthew Williams getting an RBI single to score Ebbert.

Sophomore George Starr (Franklinville, NJ) struck out six over six innings for the Lightning.

Chamberlin went 3-for-3 for Millersville.

The Lightning (4-6) in game two plated five runs in the top of the seventh.  Sophomore Connor Wilson (Clayton, DE) ripped a two-run single, Neris continued his torrid start with an RBI single and junior Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) added a two-run single.

Neris now is hitting .343 with a 1.008 OPS -- both team highs -- and his 12 hits is tied with Stewart for the program lead.

Sophomore Max Lopuhovsky (Scranton, PA) in the fifth had an RBI double and freshman Kevin Dick Jr. (Millville, NJ) in the eighth clubbed his first home run with the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold.

Lopuhovsky and junior Matt Murphy (Voorhees, NJ) had two hits apiece.

Williams collected four hits with three RBI, Ebbert rapped three hits and Jimmy Kirk drove home four runs for the Marauders (6-4).

Goldey-Beacom is back in action Wednesday at East Stroudsburg for a 3:00 pm contest.
