Goldey-Beacom baseball faced Millersville in game one of a three-game series and came away with a 6-4 win in Millersville, PA.
The first run for the Lightning came in the top of the fifth inning on a single from Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) that advanced sophomore Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE). GBC scored again in the inning on a single from sophomore Zach Smethers (Nazareth, Pa) that sent sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) home.
The Lightning scored two again in the fifth inning on a single from senior Joey Current (Denver, PA) that plated Stweart and a single from sophomore Brent Williams (Woodstown, N.J.) to score Smethers. Millersville closed to 4-3 in the sixth inning on a three-run homer from Brady Ebbert.
Goldey-Beacom scored its fifth and sixth runs in the ninth inning on errors that sent Neris Jr. and Smethers home. For Millersville, a single from Hunter Stevens sent Marco Pulizzi home to earn a fourth run but the GBC fielding and pitching prevailed in the bottom of the ninth to hold off the Marauders.
Goldey-Beacom continues the series on Sunday, with a noon doubleheader in Millersville, PA.
