Game Recap: Baseball |

No. 30 Baseball Drops Two to Frostburg State, Including 12-Inning Heartbreaker

No. 30 Goldey-Beacom closed its doubleheader against Frostburg State with a tough 5-3 loss in 12 innings after it was handed a 9-2 setback in the opener in Cary, NC.

Game two was level at one going into the last of the eighth inning when sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA), picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, continued his incredible start to the 2026 season.  After sophomore Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE) singled, Neris crushed a two-run homer to give the Lightning a 3-1 lead.

But the Bobcats scored twice in the top of the ninth to level things.  Tiernan Daly scored on a passed ball and Konner Pittman crossed home when Drew Jourdan hit into a fielder's choice.

The Lightning almost gained a split with the bases loaded in the last of the 11th, when Trey Mason crushed a two-out pitch to left field.  However, Jackson Schalick made an incredible catch at the wall to extend the contest.

There only would be one more inning as Frostburg State (4-1) scored twice.  Schalick stole second and a throwing error allowed Brian Scott to cross home from third.  Schalick made his way to third on that error and then scored on a balk.

Goldey-Beacom (3-3) wasted an outstanding performance from senior Kory Williams (Pennsauken, NJ), the reigning CACC Pitcher of the Week.  He struck out six over eight innings, allowing just one run and five hits.

Keith had three hits with junior Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) and sophomore Jake Macey (Smyrna, DE) recorded two apiece.

The game fell one inning short of the longest in program history, a 6-5 victory at Jefferson on April 27, 2018.  It also was the sixth game in team annals to go at least 12 innings.

In game one, Goldey-Beacom scored twice in the top of the fifth inning for a 2-1 lead.  Bobby Stewart had a leadoff double and freshman Kaden Barmer (Edgewood, MD) followed with an RBI single to tie things.  Barmer took second on a groundout from Mason and scored on a single from sophomore Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA).

However, the Bobcats scored five times in the last of the frame for a 6-2 lead, keyed by a two-run single from Manny Hall.  Three more crossed home in the sixth for a 9-2 margin, capped by Will Mollman's two-run triple.

Stewart closed with two hits.

Goldey-Beacom is ranked in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Poll and Frostburg State received votes.

GBC on Saturday is back in action to face Kutztown, beginning at 3:00 pm.
