Regionally Ranked Baseball Splits a Pair to Open 2026 Campaign

Goldey-Beacom got its 2026 season going with a 7-5 victory over Franklin Pierce in a matchup of regionally ranked teams before being handed an 11-6 loss by Mercy in Cary, NC.

Goldey-Beacom (34-21, 23-11 CACC) last year, in only its ninth season since the program's reinstatement, made the NCAA Tournament a fourth time with all coming in the last five years.  It was nationally ranked for the third time in the last four campaigns, regionally ranked all season in reaching number one and made the CACC Tournament a fifth straight year.

GBC entered the year eighth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Poll and Franklin Pierce was picked fifth.

In the opener, sophomore Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) continued being a mainstay in the lineup with three hits and three RBI.  He recorded a two-run double in the top of the second inning for a 3-2 deficit and his RBI single in the third gave GBC the lead for good at 4-3.

Sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) also had an impressive debut with three hits and three RBI.  He rapped an RBI single in the third for a 3-3 tie and a two-run double in the sixth to make it a 7-3 GBC cushion.

Downingtown, PA senior Connor Blence (1-0), who last year became the program's 14th pitcher to record at least five wins in a season, struck out seven over five innings.  Senior Kevin Dillon (Mount Bethel, PA) fired two scoreless innings for his second career save.

Things did not go as well in the nightcap, especially when the Mavericks plated six runs in the fifth for a 7-0 lead.  David Bernard Jr. highlighted the frame with a three-run triple.

Down 11-0, GBC scored the final six runs with sophomore Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) getting a two-run single in the seventh.

Smethers closed with two hits and sophomore George Starr (Franklinville, NJ) struck out four over 4 1/3 innings.
