Women’s Soccer Rallies for 2-2 Draw at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom scored twice in the final 13 minutes, including the tying goal from junior Tess Pearce (Manchester, England) in the 88th minute, for a 2-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference draw at Wilmington in Newark, DE.

Goldey-Beacom had the pressure on most of the second half and finally cracked the scoreboard in the 78th minute for a 2-1 contest.  Senior Jade Balon (Townsend, DE) lofted a great pass from 30 yards that took one bounce in the box before junior Janie Cross (West Deptford, NJ) chipped it over the goalkeeper and in for her second goal of the season.

More pressure ensued the rest of the contest and it was Pearce who delivered.  She had the ball roughly 25 yards out and floated one off the goalkeeper's hands and in for her fifth career goal, second of the year and a tie contest.

Pearce now stands at 20 career points.

Sophomore Maria Empadinhas (Cascais, Portugal) again was outstanding with nine saves and senior Lexy Yeager (West Deptford, NJ) attempted three shots for the Lightning (2-7-2, 2-2-2 CACC).

The Wildcats (2-5-4, 2-2-3) needed just under five minutes to register the game's first marker.  Claudia Gillum was part of a fast break and she played a beautiful ball to Quinne Ansley, who found the back of the net.

Wilmington made it a 2-0 contest 12 minutes into the second half.  Maria Luguizamon had a 40-yard free kick and banged one in off the crossbar for her second goal of the campaign.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday on Senior Day against Post for a noon contest.
