Men's Soccer Leads at Half Before Falling to Monroe, 5-2

Goldey-Beacom College fell to Monroe University, 5-2, Monday afternoon at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.

Monroe opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Peterson Aquino found the back of the net. The Lightning responded in the 36th minute when freshman Edualy Simon (Camden, DE) scored his first goal of the season, with assists from junior Armaghaan Hasan (Bellmawr, NJ) and senior Sam Ball (Salisbury, MD). Four minutes later, Ball gave Goldey-Beacom the lead, converting a penalty kick in the 40th minute for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Monroe came out strong in the second half, scoring twice within four minutes to take a 3-2 lead. Sebastian Faudoa scored off an assist from Simone Pitale in the 55th minute before Brunno Rhyan added another goal in the 58th minute. Monroe extended its advantage in the 73rd minute when Kelvin Yengbie converted a penalty kick. Yahya Sy added another goal in the 83rd minute, with an assist from Matthew Murray-Smith, to complete the scoring.

Goldey-Beacom finished with 14 shots and Monroe recorded 20. Ball led the Lightning with four shots and a goal. Simon finished with three shots and a goal with Hasan and senior Derrick Muhire (Kigali, Rwanda) each recording two shots.

Sophomore Nico Hernandez (Delmar, MD) finished with five saves for the Lightning.  Monroe's Sinan Sargin recorded six.

Goldey-Beacom visits Wilmington University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
