Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener at Pace

Goldey-Beacom ran into a tough opponent in Pace and was dealt a 6-1 season-opening loss in Pleasantville, NY.

Goldey-Beacom this season looks to reload after losing four of its top six contributors in points from last year, one year after ending the regular season with victories in four of its last six contests to clinch a second consecutive trip to the CACC Tournament.

The Setters in the 14th minute netted the match's first goal, thanks to Thiago Lugo with Braden Jacobs and Pietro Carvalho getting the assists.  Thomas Lynden made it 2-0 for Pace in the 19th minute on assists from Ervin Radoncic and Lucas Esquivel.

Jacobs found the goal column in the 30th minute off a feed from Peter Magnuson III for a 3-0 margin.

The scoreboard read 5-0 before the Lightning got their first goal of the campaign.  Sophomore Johs Herden (Osnabrück, Germany) took a pass from freshman Trevor Sullivan (Camden, DE) and buried one for his third career goal.

Herden had three shots with senior Jamel Yasin (Sewell, NJ) making four saves for the Lightning (0-1).

Magnuson joined Jacobs in notching a goal and an assist with Joe Zweben making four saves for the Setters (1-0).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits the District of Columbia for a 5:00 pm contest.
