Goldey-Beacom women's soccer gained its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Staten Island in non-conference play in Staten Island, NY.
Staten Island got on the board five minutes into play with a goal from Annika Jurik, assisted by Mazzy Cirinelli. The Lightning evened the score in the 25th minute on a goal by Ryley Dixon (Pilesgrove, N.J.) with fellow sophomore Tess Pearce (Manchester, England) adding the assist. The remainder of the first half stayed tied 1-1, with CSI taking 13 shots and GBC having seven of their own.
In the second half, Goldey-Beacom scored its second goal in the 57th minute when freshman Nataly Ruiz (Wilmington, D.E.) found the back of the net with Pearce getting her second assist. The Lightning kept the Dolphins scoreless the rest of the second half to prevail to the 2-1 victory.
Freshman Malaika Nunziata (Cape Town, South Africa) made five saves with Dixon and junior Lexy Yeager (West Deptford, N.J.) adding five shots apiece.
Goldey-Beacom plays next on Tuesday, when it resumes Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Lincoln University, PA against Lincoln (PA) at 4:00pm.
