Volleyball Splits Two Matches to End the Weekend

Goldey-Beacom split its Saturday matches with a thrilling 3-2 victory (22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 17-25, 16-14) over Lock Haven after a 3-1 loss (17-25, 25-18, 20-15, 15-25) to Glenville State in Lock Haven, PA.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the fifth set against Lock Haven scored the first five points and held a 13-8 lead.  The Bald Eagles then went on a 6-1 run to level things at 14 before the Lightning scored the last two points.  Myka Costanzo had a service error and Madelyn Wagner made a bad set to give GBC the win.
 
Sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) had 17 kills and just one error over 33 swings for a .485 percentage with freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, Utah) getting 12 kills and nine digs.  Freshman Alana Scott (Gaithersburg, MD) had 12 kills and seven digs, Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) notched 47 assists and 15 digs for her third double-double of the season and fellow sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) added 29 digs.
 
Madelyn Mitchell notched 22 kills and Wagner added 36 assists for Lock Haven (2-7).
 
Against Glenville State, Goldey-Beacom (4-7) in the second set gained a 14-11 kills edge and forced it opponents into seven errors and just a .111 hitting percentage.  Scott continued to be a huge component for this team, recording six kills in the set with Gingras adding three.
 
Scott recorded a season-best 15 kills to go with a .323 percentage.  Malena notched 34 assists and 13 digs for her second double-double of the year, Fernandez had 13 digs and junior Giuliana Jaku (Belluno, Italy) added 10 for the Lightning.
 
Keleigh Chrisman pounded 12 kills, Cali Queen had 11 and 16 digs with Ava O'Hare adding 22 digs for the Pioneers (7-6).
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Jefferson, beginning at 7:00 pm.
