Volleyball Splits Two Matches

Goldey-Beacom closed its day with a 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19) over Saint Thomas Aquinas after it was handed a 3-0 loss (20-25, 18-25, 20-25) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
With the second match tied 1-1, the Lightning in set three turned up the defense in forcing the Spartans (1-4) to commit 12 errors.  Goldey-Beacom in the fourth pounded 16 kills to just four errors and owned a .286 hitting percentage.
 
Baylee Brin (Salina, KS) had 11 kills and just one error over 24 attacks for a .417 hitting percentage, fellow junior Kloe Waymel (Mulhouse, France) notched 10 kills, sophomore Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) recorded 21 assists and 15 digs with freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, Utah) adding 16 digs for the Lightning (3-4).
 
Laura Rojas Gomez recorded 13 kills and Anna Gazzerro added 43 assists for STAC.
 
West Chester (6-1) had a 42-31 kills edge that included 16-9 in the first set to take control.
 
Sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR), the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, had 20 digs with sophomore Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) getting 16 and 11 assists.  Malena totaled 14 assists.
 
Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday visits Holy Family for its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener.  First serve is at 6:00 pm.
