Volleyball Wins, 3-1, Over Millersville

Goldey-Beacom volleyball picked up its second win of the season in a four-set victory over Millersville in Millersville, PA (21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-15).

Millersville came out strong and captured the first set, but Goldey-Beacom rallied and took the next three sets to prevail in the 3-1 victory. The Marauders put up a fight in the second set, holding Goldey-Beacom to a .091 hitting percentage in the set, but the Lightning's defense remained tough, giving Goldey the momentum needed to take the set. Sets three and four saw a dominating performance from the Lightning squad, hitting .355 in the third and limiting the Marauders to a .056 hitting percentage in the fourth.


Sophomore Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, P.R.), the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, once again led the defense with an impressive 31 digs.  Sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, Ga.) and freshman Alana Scott (Gaithersburg, Md.) led with offense with 11 kills apiece. Sophomore Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) finished with 28 assists and Fullwood and freshman Cassie Hall (Williamsburg, VA) added four blocks each.


Millersville was led by Taylor Welter with 15 kills, Trinity Baldwin with 30 assists and Becca Hartranft with 18 digs.


Goldey-Beacom plays next on Saturday, when it hosts a tri-match against West Chester at 11:00 am and Saint Thomas Aquinas at 3:00 pm in the Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
