Goldey-Beacom looked to advance in the CACC tournament with a deciding game against cross-town rival Wilmington (DE), but was defeated 13-12 with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning. This was the Lightning's fifth consecutive trip to the postseason since the program began in 2017 and they will now await the release of the NCAA Tournament bracket where the season is expected to continue.
As usual, senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) got things started at his first at bat with a double to right field to get the Lightning on the board. Josearmando Diaz then hit a three-run homer to right center to give Wilmington a 3-1 edge after only one inning. Wilmington added a fourth run on a double from Brandon Grygo in the second inning before junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) homered to right field and sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) hit a 2-run blast to right center field. Charles then had another homerun in the fourth inning, this time bringing in three runs and giving the Lightning a 7-4 lead.
Wilmington bounced back in the fourth and fifth innings with a two-run double from Shawn Edevane, a RBI single by Chase Fleming, a home run from Nick Classie, and a double from Tyler Pirrung. Garrett Quinn brought in the 10th run for the Wildcats in the sixth inning with a single up the middle.
In the seventh inning, Stewart doubled down the left field line to bring home senior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) and freshman Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) brought in an RBI. The eighth inning saw GBC regain the lead with RBI singles from Stewart and senior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA). A wild pitch and a single from Quinn gave Wilmington a one run lead heading into the ninth inning.
Dickerson leveled things at 12-12 with a double to left center that advanced Williams home. But Wilmington got a walk-off single from Zach Rosenzweig to take the victory and advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
