Game Recap: Baseball |

No. 24 Baseball Nabs Two Nailbiters From Bridgeport

No. 24 Goldey-Beacom survived a late rally from Bridgeport for a 13-11 win and then received great pitching for a 4-3 triumph, both Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victories at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Game one saw sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) crack a grand slam as part of the Lightning's nine-run third inning to take an 11-1 lead.  He and senior Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) closed with two hits apiece and freshman Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) had three RBI that included a two-run triple.

Downingtown, PA junior Connor Blence (2-0) struck out five over 5 1/3 innings and senior Wyatt Atkinson (Moorestown, NJ) recorded the last five outs for the save for the Lightning (25-9, 15-3 CACC).

Jay Hamilton notched three hits and three RBI with a two-run homer, Anthony Armenia recorded three RBI that included a two-run homer and Thomas Stapleton pitched four great innings out of the bullpen for a no-decision for the Purple Knights (9-26, 7-15).

Game two saw senior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) and Stewart draw bases-loaded walks before junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) lined a two-run single for a 4-3 GBC lead.  Liam O'Neal cracked a solo homer for Bridgeport.

Fords, NJ senior Ryan Pozo (4-0) notched a career-best 11 strikeouts over six innings and freshman Britton Wildasin (New Market, MD) struck out two during a perfect seventh inning for the save.

Jeremy Rodrigues had two hits and two RBI with Marcos Dominguez getting two hits for Bridgeport.

Goldey-Beacom has a short turnaround before hosting Bloomfield on Thursday for a noon doubleheader.
