No. 24 Baseball Cruises to Two Wins Over Bloomfield

No. 24 Goldey-Beacom rolled to a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference wins by scores of 12-0 and 27-3 at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) in game one again was one of the hitting stars, falling just a home run short of the cycle.  He closed 4-for-4 with five RBI that included a run-scoring single in the first inning, an RBI double in the second, a two-run double in the third and an RBI triple in the fifth.

Sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) had one of the most productive 0-for-0 days on any level of baseball, recording a career-best four stolen bases on three walks.  Seniors Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) and Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) recorded two hits apiece for the Lightning, who scored in double figures for a 10th time this season before making it 11 in game two.

Dickerson had an RBI double, Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) notched a run-scoring groundout and fellow freshman Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) lifted a sacrifice fly.

Newport News, VA freshman Zach Davis (5-0) was outstanding in his second start of the campaign, notching a career-best 10 strikeouts in surrendering just one hit and one walk.

Game two saw the Lightning plate six in the last of the third for a 7-1 lead.  Senior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) lined an RBI single, Smethers crossed home on a wild pitch, Benner ripped a two-run single, senior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) scored on a wild pitch and freshman Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) had a sacrifice fly.

Elder Maldanado ripped a two-run triple in the top of the fourth to get the Bears within 7-3, but the Lightning responded with five runs in the last of the frame.  DiSabatino lined a two-run double, Smethers again scored on a wild pitch and Williams lined a two-run single for a 12-3 lead.

GBC (27-9, 17-3 CACC) in the fifth plated 10 runs, which included a two-run single from Harkins, for a 22-3 cushion.

Twelve different players for the Lightning had a hit and 10 had an RBI.  Williams notched four RBI with DiSabatino, Tyee Irving (Milford, PA) and fellow freshman Jake Macey (Smyrna, DE) getting three apiece.

Bloomfield falls to 0-26 overall and 0-14 in the CACC.

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday visits Dominican (NY) for a noon doubleheader.
