No. 25 Baseball Splits Two With No. 17 Jefferson

No. 25 Goldey-Beacom opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against No. 17 Jefferson with a 9-8 victory before being dealt a 5-0 loss at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

A wild first inning that featured seven runs saw Goldey-Beacom take a 5-2 lead.  Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) crushed a three-run blast for his seventh long ball of the season and fellow senior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) added a two-run double.

Thomas Matuszewski lined a three-run double in the second for a 5-5 tie before sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) scored on a wild pitch in the last of the frame to give GBC back the lead.

The Lightning trailed 8-7 entering the seventh before plating two runs.  Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) smashed a leadoff homer for his 15th career long ball, fellow senior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) singled, reached third on sacrifices from seniors Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) and Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) before Benner plated him with an RBI single.

Dickerson and Benner each had two hits and three RBI with Jolikko getting two hits for the Lightning (23-9, 13-3 CACC).  Newport News, VA freshman Zach Davis (4-0) tossed 2 2/3 relief scoreless innings before senior Ryan Pozo (Fords, NJ) got the last four outs for the save.

Matuszewski and Justin Egner recorded two hits each for the Rams (23-9, 15-3).

Game two saw an outstanding performance on the hill from Kevin Baez, who struck out seven in pitching a two-hit shutout.  Kyle Kozlowski had an RBI single in the fourth for a 2-0 contest before Gabe Silva, Luis Beato Mora and Jay Kalieta got run-scoring singles in the sixth for the final.

Mora finished with two hits for Jefferson.
