Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Upends D’Youville, 7-5

Senior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) tied the school record with three doubles for Goldey-Beacom, which rapped 12 hits en route to a 7-5 victory over D'Youville at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

The Saints, looking to gain a split of the four-game series, jumped to a 3-0 lead.  Derek Onevelo had an RBI groundout in the second inning, Billy Morris lined a run-scoring double in the third and stole home.

The Lightning (9-6) closed to 2-1 in the third.  Freshman Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) led off with a single and was erased on a fielder's choice grounder from senior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ).  The latter took second on a wild pitch, reached third on Kolmansberger's double and scored on a sacrifice fly from junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ).

GBC then took its first lead, 5-3, with four runs in the fifth.  Charles ripped a two-run single to tie things and senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) launched a two-run homer for his third long ball of the season.

Morris got an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth to make it 5-4, but Williams restored the Lightning's two-run margin in the last of the frame with a sacrifice fly.

Jonathan Simpson lined an RBI single in the eighth for a 6-5 game, but GBC had an answer.  Senior Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) continued his strong start with a leadoff homer for his third long ball of the campaign and fifth career.

Newport News, VA freshman Zach Davis (3-0) struck out four over 2 1/3 relief innings for the win and junior Logan Myers (Newark, DE) struck out one in the ninth for his first career save.

It is the seventh time in program history a Lightning has recorded three doubles in one game and Kolmansberger, the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, is the first to accomplish this twice.  He also got three doubles April 11, 2023 at Wilmington (DE).

McEvoy and Williams had two hits apiece.

Morris, Onevelo, Kevin Del Vecchio and Jake Hollis recorded two hits apiece for D'Youville (3-9).

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday is at Queens (NY) for a 3:00 pm contest.
