Baseball Takes Two From Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom in game one cruised to a 12-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Caldwell before holding on for a 7-5 triumph in the nightcap at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

The Lightning in the opener plated six runs in the top of the first inning and were in control after that.  Seniors Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) and Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) each had two-run singles with senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) and freshman Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) each adding an RBI hit.

Dickerson and senior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) recorded two hits and two RBI apiece with sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) cracking a two-run homer.  Franklinville, NJ freshman George Starr (3-3) had another strong game on the hill, striking out five over six innings.

Things were a little more interesting in the second game with Goldey-Beacom plating five runs in the fourth for a 7-4 cushion.  Dickerson and senior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) each got RBI singles in the frame.

Pennsauken, NJ junior Kory Williams (3-2) was outstanding over 5 1/3 innings, striking out nine.  Wyatt Atkinson (Moorestown, NJ) got out of a jam by inducing a pair of fielder's choices in the sixth and fellow senior Gage Bendix (Piscataway, NJ) pitched a scoreless seventh for his third save of the season.

It was Bendix' fifth career save, moving him into sole possession of second place in school history.

Dickerson collected two more hits with Williams getting two RBI for the Lightning (18-6, 8-0 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom extended its school-record winning streak to 11 games, made it a team-best 10 straight league victories dating to last season and bested its top CACC start since opening 7-0 in 2021.

Stephen Young Jr. rapped three hits for the Cougars (9-11, 3-9).

Goldey-Beacom is next scheduled to face Holy Family on Saturday in Philadelphia.  First pitch is at noon.
