Goldey-Beacom baseball finished the four-game series against Lincoln (PA) with a doubleheader sweep on the road to win the series and improve to 6-0 in conference play.
Game one saw strong hitting from both sides, but the Lightning ran away with it in the sixth inning for a 16-8 victory. Junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, N.J.) opened up the hits for GBC in his first at bat with a two-run homer, his second of the season. Lincoln countered in the bottom of the first off a single from Keith Gardner that advanced two runners home. The fourth inning saw Scott Renk hit a three RBI home run to give Lincoln the 5-2 lead heading into the fifth inning.
In the fifth inning, freshman Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) singled to send senior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) home, senior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, N.J.) grounded out to advance fellow senior Matt Benner (Souderton, Pa.) home, senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) doubled to advance two runners, and senior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) hit a double to send Dickerson home. For Lincoln, Solomon Devard singled to score a run.
The sixth inning saw six runs scored for the Lightning, the first by DiSabatino advancing on an error, the second off of a double from charles to send Williams home, four more off of walked batters, and the final coming off a wild pitch to send sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) home. Lincoln scored their seventh run in the seventh inning on a wild pitch that advanced Jaden Greenidge home. The eighth inning saw a single from Williams to score the final two runs for the Lightning. Lincoln added their final run off a single from Greenridge.Â
On the mound, senior Wyatt Atkinson (Moorestown, N.J.) finished the day with seven strikeouts and junior Tommy Federici (Swoyersville, Pa.) picked up his first win of the season.
Goldey-Beacom kept the momentum rolling in game two, hitting three home runs to win 15-3 in seven innings.
The first inning for Lincoln saw a single from Wesley Hogan to advance two runners home.Miguel Agramonte then homered to score Lincoln's third and final run of the game.Â
Freshman Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) hit his first home run of his career in the third inning to score the first three runs for GBC. The fourth inning saw Williams and Charles both double to score two runs and Dickerson hit a single to drive in Charles. Stewart hit a two RBI homer in the fifth inning, Smethers doubled in the sixth inning to drive home two runs, and Jolikko singled to send home Smethers. Stewart hit his second two RBI home run in the sixth inning to cap off his hits for the game and give the Lightning a comfortable 13-3 lead before heading into the seventh inning.Â
Smethers had his third hit of the game in the seventh inning, having a single that advanced Charles. Jolikko finished off the game with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored freshman Jay Duncan (Kennedyville, Md.) for GBC's 15th run.Â
Freshman Zach Davis (Newport News, Va.) picked up the victory on the mound, finishing the game with five strikeouts and only allowing three hits.Â
Goldey-Beacom plays next on Wednesday, where they host Caldwell in a doubleheader at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE at 12:00pm.
