Men's and Women's Track & Field Places Second at Purple & Gold Invitational

Both Goldey-Beacom track and field teams grabbed a second-place finish at the Purple & Gold Invitational in West Chester, PA. The men finished with a team score of 100.5 and the women closed with a score of 86.5. West Chester placed first for both sides.


On the men's side, senior Dev Napier (Hagerstown, Md.) had a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.86 seconds. Freshman Zay McAllister (Bordentown, N.J.) saw an eighth place finish in the 100-meter dash with 11.35 seconds and sophomore Zach Phy (Lancaster, PA) finished 35th with in 12.20 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Jalen Wright (Wilmington, DE) placed third with a time of 22.71 seconds, freshman Lathan Love-Brown (Wilmington, DE) closed sixth with 23.17 seconds, and sophomore Brian Hamilton finished in 49th in 24.80 seconds.


The 400-meter dash saw another first place finisher for the Lightning, this time being Jalen Wright with a time of 49.01 seconds. Love-Brown grabbed a fifth-place finish in 51.41 seconds and freshman Matthew Haight placed 24th in 55.72 seconds. In the 1500 meter run, freshman Aquillino Rozanski (Olympia, WA) finished 57th with a time of 4:59.59. 


The men's 10,000-meter run saw only three runners race, with freshman Kalle Ohlund (Huskvarna, Sweden) taking the second place spot in 33:28.93 and sophomore John Ferry (Rising Sun, MD) taking the third place spot with 33:35.33. In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Hezakiah Ali-Bentley (Dover, DE) placed fifth overall with a time of 1:00.60. Fellow senior Yusef Shakur (Townsend, DE) placed second in the steeplechase in 11:15.23. 


In the field events, Freshman Ty'Shawn Ewings (Harrisburg, PA) placed first in high jump with a jump of 1.95m. Fellow freshman Nijair Williams (Philadelphia, PA) grabbed an eighth-place finish with a jump of 1.70m. Ewings also placed fourth in long jump with 6.44m and sixth in triple jump with 11.62m, and Williams placed 22nd in long jump with 4.90m. In shot put, junior Sebastien Lacroix (Hamilton, NJ) finished second overall with a throw of 14.66m. Lacroix also placed ninth in the discus throw with 33.37m and second in hammer throw with a throw of 41.20m.


On the women's side, senior Karla Chardon (Penns Grove, NJ) placed third in the 100-meter dash in 13.10 seconds and fellow senior Savannah Boyce (Somerville, NJ) finished 15th in 15.05 seconds. Freshman Ryley Dixon (Pilesgrove, NJ) saw a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.30 seconds. Dixon grabbed first in the 400-meter run in 1:00.68, fellow freshman Aiyanna Adams (Pittsburgh, PA) finished in fourth with 1:03.65, and senior Kaylah Hill (Brooklyn, NY) finished 24th in 1:11.18. 


In the 800-meter run, senior Izzy Popoff (Cicero, NY) placed ninth overall with a time of 2:44.98 and Adams finished 12th with 2:44.98. Senior Ny'jashia Smith (Newark, DE) finished 11th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 22:45.95. Smith also finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.79, with freshman Liv Drewling (Düsseldorf, Germany) taking first overall with 1:07.67. Smith wrapped up her events with a first place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 14:43.56. 


In the field events, Drewling grabbed another first place finish in high jump with a jump of 1.57m and a third place finish in triple jump with 9.87m. Boyce placed fourth in high jump with a jump of 1.47m. In shot put, junior Jourdyn Rumph (Ardmore, PA) placed ninth with a throw of 10.73m, junior Madison McGowan (Bristow, VA) ended 10th with 10.46m, freshman Dominique Lewis (Salem, NJ) closed 17th with 9.46m, and junior Maya White Eagle (Baraboo, WI) finished 21st with 8.88m. In the discus throw, Lewis placed 13th with a throw of 28.23m and McGowan finished in 28th with 21.92m. In the hammer throw, Rumph saw a fourth place finish with a throw of 39.09m, Lewis finished 16th with 28.95m, White Eagle placed 22nd with a throw of 24.51m, and McGowan ended in 23rd with 23.06m. Wrapping up the day for the Lightning was Chardon placing second in javelin with a throw of 37.90m and White Eagle finishing in 19th with 19.71m.


Both teams head to Raleigh, NC on Thursday, where they compete in the Raleigh Relays over a three day stretch.
