Goldey-Beacom recorded 21 stolen bases on the day, including a school-record 11 in game one, for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep of Lincoln (PA) by scores of 10-9 and 12-1 at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.
Game one saw senior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) record a career-best five stolen bases, one shy of the school record set by Johnny Kampes set April 16, 2023 vs. Felician. Sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) and junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) had two apiece in helping GBC break the mark of 10 set April 13 of last season vs. Holy Family.
The 11 stolen bases is the most in a GBC game at Doyle Field and Petrillo tied the individual mark at the field established by Raul Perez-Duran on April 21, 2018 vs. Dominican (NY).
Charles had two hits and two RBI in the contest with senior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) getting two hits. Mount Bethel, PA junior Kevin Dillon (2-0) got the victory by striking out two over 1 1/3 innings and senior Gage Bendix (Piscataway, NJ) notched his second save of the year, recording the final out for the Lightning (14-6, 4-0 CACC).
Wesley Hogan cracked a three-run homer as part of his three hits for the Lions (2-13, 0-8).
Game two saw Goldey-Beacom disappoint with only 10 stolen bases. Charles amassed three with Stewart recording two.
The real story in game two was Hagerstown, MD senior Mikey Hawbaker (2-1), who had a career-best nine strikeouts over six innings and took a no-hitter into the fourth inning. He only gave up one run and three hits with no walks.
Senior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) had three RBI, Benner recorded two hits and two RBI with senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) getting two hits for the Lightning.
Keith Gardner rapped two hits and Hogan broke up the no-hitter with a solo homer.
These teams on Sunday will play a doubleheader at noon in Lincoln University, PA.
