Baseball Opens League Play With Twin-Bill Sweep of Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom notched two victories to begin play this season in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, rolling to a 14-2 win over Georgian Court in game one and a 9-2 triumph in the nightcap at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Goldey-Beacom in the first inning of game one drew to a 1-1 tie thanks to senior leadoff hitter Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ), who continued his consistent production with a homer to left field.  GBC made it 2-1 in the second when senior Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) doubled to deep left-center field.

The Lightning then benefitted from two unearned runs in the third for a 4-2 cushion.  Senior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) reached on a two-out throwing error and scored when junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) cracked a home run to right.

GBC distanced itself with three runs in the fourth for a 7-2 lead.  Senior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) had an RBI single and freshman Brent Williams (Woodstown, NJ) continued to be a mainstay in the lineup with a two-run double.

Petrillo in the sixth crushed a two-run triple, senior Mitch Jolikko (Middletown, DE) had a two-run double and DiSabatino added a two-run single as part of a seven-run frame for the final.

Petrillo, DiSabatino and Williams all had two hits and three RBI apiece.  Franklinville, NJ freshman George Starr (2-3) got the victory after yielding just two runs and three hits over six innings with a strikeout.

Alex Elliott homered as part of his two hits for the Lions.

The Lightning (12-6, 2-0 CACC) wasted little time in the nightcap, plating two runs for a 2-0 lead.  Sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) lined an RBI single through the left side and senior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) followed with a sacrifice fly.

Seven continued to be the lucky number as Goldey-Beacom in the third inning put up its second seven spot of the afternoon for a 9-0 margin.  Senior Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) helped the charge with a two-run double, Stewart added a two-RBI triple with Petrillo and senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) each getting an RBI.

Pennsauken, NJ junior Kory Williams (2-2) again was phenomenal on the bump, striking out eight over six innings in yielding just two runs.  He has at least six strikeouts in three of his four outings this season.

Stewart closed 3-for-3 and Dickerson rapped two hits.

Jack Greenspan went 3-for-3 for the Lions (1-13, 0-6).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday hosts Lincoln (PA) for a noon doubleheader in Hockessin.
