Baseball Opens Second Cary Trip With 6-5 Triumph Over Kutztown

Goldey-Beacom began its second journey to Cary, NC with a 6-5 victory over Kutztown.

Senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) continued his impressive start in the opening inning, lining an RBI double that plated junior Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ).  GBC made it 3-0 in the last of the second when Charles lifted a sacrifice fly and senior Adam McEvoy (Sewell, NJ) crossed home on an error.

The Lightning were the beneficiary of another error in the sixth, when a throwing miscue once again scored McEvoy to make it 4-0.

Jared Ferguson got a two-run double in the seventh for a 4-2 margin, but the difference only was temporary.  Senior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) in the eighth lined a two-run single and Charles followed with a two-run blast for his second home run of the season and eighth career for a 6-2 game.

The Golden Bears got three runs in the ninth, with Ferguson getting a two-run double and Zack Wertman adding an RBI single.  But Michael Burns grounded out with the tying run on third to end it.

Mechanicsburg, PA junior Nate Miller (1-0) again was outstanding, striking out six over 6 1/3 innings in allowing just two runs – one earned – and six hits.  Junior Connor Blence (Downingtown, PA) struck out three over 1 2/3 relief frames.

Charles and McEvoy had two hits apiece.

Ferguson, Nick Varda and Bryce Schafer recorded two hits apiece with Paul Moretski (0-1) striking out five over four innings.

Goldey-Beacom on Sunday faces Slippery Rock at 1:30 pm.
